After all, he couldn’t fix everything.ĭonnie looked up and frown deeply at the mantle clock. But he was having a hard time thinking through was could be wrong in the first place. Then again, he had never worked on a mower before. The grass really needed to be done, so the mower would be his first project tomorrow. Raph couldn’t get it to run this afternoon and Donnie hadn’t had time to look at it. Oh, and he also needed to take a look at the riding lawn mower. Whatever the issue, it wasn’t draining properly. More than likely leaves needed to be flushed out and connecters secured. The gutter on the west side of the house needed repair. That should be done tomorrow before April headed off for groceries. His thoughts drifted back and forth between the steady beat and the myriad of things that sat on his mind’s back burner. One by one, Donnie returned the customary greeting, before returning to his task of counting the beats of the clock. One by one, they all bid a good night, and trudged off to whatever part of the house that was their own. Here he was, looking at relaxed expressions, loose shoulders. It was like the last three months they had endured hadn’t even occurred. After months of living in a household that was perpetually holding its breath, the sound of life was almost unnerving. He studied their faces, their hands, their tones. Donnie himself merely tucked away by the fire, observing every little detail of his family. ![]() April and Leo had stationed themselves on the couch, nursing warm cups of tea while watching the spectacle unfold. Casey was among them, riling them up with unwanted commentary before fighting for the loser’s controller. The two of them huddled on the floor, shoulder to shoulder, mashing buttons at a furious rate. The scene, however, was as one would imagine it. Mikey and Raph held the audience by playing several rounds of whatever video game, Donnie couldn’t quite remember now. A fire was breathing in fireplace, giving the room an additional glow of mirth for the inhabitants of the farm. When he had sat down and begun to listen to its tune, everyone was still up. Donnie had long lost track of how long he had been sitting listening to the clock.
